The official currency of Costa Rica is the Colon, but U.S. dollars are widely accepted. If you have denominations of $20 or less, most, if not all places, including taxis, will take the U.S. dollars and will give you change in Costa Rica Colones. If you only have high denomination bills, you may need to go to the bank.
U.S. dollars and travelers’ checks can be exchanged in banks between 9:00am and 3:00pm Monday thru Friday. You will need to bring your passport with you to change currency. Major credit cards are accepted at most restaurants throughout the country. ATMs are available in Manuel Antonio, and there are two conveniently located across the street from the property, at the Promerica Bank complex and Banco de Costa Rica. These ATMs dispense both Costa Rica Colones and U.S. Dollars.
Most independent guides and tours only accept cash.
