Explore the Rich Coast

Have you ever wondered what Costa Rica means? Spanish for “rich coast,” its origins come from Christopher Columbus’ arrival in 1502 when he encountered natives wearing gold. While the material wealth that Columbus anticipated wasn’t quite there after further exploration, Costa Rica remains a fitting name for many other reasons.

One of our biggest riches is our land, and we have our soil to thank for growing our famous coffee beans and bananas. Costa Rica’s landscape is varied, from mountains to coastlines and rain-forests providing homes to a variety of wildlife, visitors come from all over the world to see it with their own eyes.

So even though we have been named the “rich coast” for the wrong reason, we think it still fits! We invite you to come explore our riches.
